Greek Government to Introduce Self-Exclusion Registry in Proposed Consultation

The Greek government is taking steps to protect vulnerable citizens from gambling-related harm by introducing a self-exclusion registry in a proposed consultation. The registry would allow individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from participating in gambling activities, including online gambling.

The proposal is part of a larger effort to reduce the prevalence of problem gambling in the country. According to the Greek Ministry of Finance, the registry would be managed by the Hellenic Gaming Commission and would be available to all licensed operators in the country.

The registry would allow individuals to register for a period of one year, three years, or five years. During this time, they would be prohibited from participating in any form of gambling activity, including online gambling. The registry would also be available to family members and friends of problem gamblers who wish to help them stay away from gambling activities.

The proposed consultation also includes measures to protect minors from gambling activities. This includes prohibiting operators from advertising gambling products to minors and introducing age verification systems. Additionally, operators would be required to provide information about responsible gambling and the risks associated with gambling.

The Greek government is also looking into introducing a system that would allow players to set limits on their gambling activities. This would allow players to set a maximum amount of money they are willing to spend on gambling activities, as well as a maximum amount of time they are willing to spend on gambling activities.

The proposed consultation is an important step towards protecting vulnerable citizens from gambling-related harm. The self-exclusion registry, along with other measures such as age verification systems and limits on gambling activities, will help ensure that individuals are able to make informed decisions about their gambling activities and stay away from activities that could potentially cause harm.
